Third Pace exhibition - titled Local Velocity

Well, planning for the third and last of the Pace Project exhibitions is underway. The title of the show will be Local Velocity. I chose that title because, in line with the rest of the year-long Pace project, this last exhibition will be based largely around the idea of how we can pace our lives, with particular focus on the local.

Apparently 'local velocity' is a term used in science. In the aerospace domain, for example, it refers to the velocity of a particular point on an object relative to its surrounding fluid, as opposed to 'average velocity', or 'remote velocity'.

 That seems about right, in a way. My use of the term for the exhibition is as a prompt for thoughts and discussions (via the works chosen for the show) on the rate and direction of change we might want at local levels. Since change close to home- or at home- is the only change we may expect to have some influence over, these are thoughts and discussions always worth having, it seems to me.

Workshops at BIA by John Madden

Its good to see that some of the artists from the Pace exhibitions are offering their specialized workshops at BIA. Check out the BIA website for 9-week long beginner woodworking with John Madden, as well as the slip casting workshops by Peter Biddulph mentioned below.

Here's an update on Peter's work and whats happening for him at present:

The guinomi received an 'honorable mention' in Mino Japan and have therefore now passed 3 stages of judging and will be exhibited there.
 

This Wednesday (17th) is the opening of Launch Pad in which he is one of 15 finalists. http://launch-pad.com.au/ so he is going down to Sydney for that, and for Saturday in Design. http://saturdayindesign.com.au/

Peter is also one of 40 finalists in the Traveling Scholarship and some sculptural work is currently on display at Noosa Regional gallery until September 11.

If you would like to get closer to how Peter works, and create/reproduce 3D objects in ceramic, now's your chance. He will be teaching ceramic slip casting at BIA for a 9 week course starting in September on Mondays 9.30 - 12.30 or Wednesday evenings 6.30 - 9.30. Check BIA's website for the details!
